$85 million Misericordia Hospital expansion to open soon – constructconnect.com – Journal Of Commerce
EDMONTON – The Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton has undergone an $85 million expansion to its emergency department and will open later in the month.
The upgraded emergency department is 5,500 square metres and has the capacity to accommodate about 60,000 patient visits per year, which will help reduce wait times and improve the patient experience, a Government of Alberta release said.
“This expansion was built while the rest of the hospital remained fully operational. I’m thankful for the talented tradespeople and professionals who pulled this off while ensuring the safety of patients and space for hospital staff to work,” said Alberta Minister of Infrastructure Pete Guthrie in a statement.
The space includes six ambulance bays, 64 treatment rooms, two radiology rooms, five isolation rooms, 18 acute care spaces and a decontamination suite.
Misericordia Community Hospital was originally built in 1969 and is a full-service acute care facility located in northwest Edmonton.
