Canadian employers added 90,000 jobs in April, marking the largest employment gain in more than a year. Statistics Canada released last month’s jobs numbers this morning and they show that the national unemployment rate held steady at 6.1 per cent last month. The agency says the April employment gains were driven by part-time work. The Canadian job market has cooled significantly over the last year as the Bank of Canada’s interest rate hikes have weighed on economic growth. As for PEI, employment grew by 700 on the Island in April and the province’s unemployment rate fell to 6.8 percent last month from 7.4 percent in March.
