Like a bug on the verge of being flushed down the toilet, the Bengals are clinging to their playoff lives tonight in Duval. The Jaguars are hoping to flush the Bengals’ playoff hopes down the proverbial drain while improving their own place in the AFC playoff standings as this matchup has kicked off.
Fortunately for Cincinnati, Zac Taylor’s team has its full complement of receivers for the first time since Week 9 with the return of Tee Higgins. That should make things easier for Jake Browning, who has been just OK since replacing Joe Burrow in the starting lineup. Browning and Co. are up against a Jaguars defense that has been stellar on third down despite being 28th in the NFL in passing yards allowed.
Defensively, the Bengals have been an enigma. Despite having talented players on all three levels, the unit is one of the NFL’s worst units against the run and suffered a blow earlier today when cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt was placed on injured reserve. It’ll have to play above its weight class tonight against Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars talented playmakers that includes Travis Etienne, Christian Kirk, Calvin Ridley and Evan Engram.
Can the Bengals keep their playoff hopes alive, or will the Jaguars flush Cincinnati’s dreams of a third straight playoff berth? Check out our live blog below to find out.
