Software will streamline operations, create safer work environment
A Sudbury-based company has equipped a gold miner in Brazil with some high-tech tools to streamline its operations.
Earlier this month, NSS Canada completed a successful implementation of Miner Operated Survey System (MOSS) and Exyn autonomous technologies at Jaguar Mining.
MOSS is an underground surveying software that supports a wide range of Leica robotic total stations.
The technology “integrates mine design specifications and drawings when completing mark-ups, and provides real-time information for miners, engineers and geologists,” the company said.
The MOSS system “has been proven to help reduce overbreak by 15-20 per cent by enforcing best practices,” according to a release from NSS Canada. “Miners are provided ample feedback to help their drilling improve, stay consistent and prevent them from deviating from design.”
NSS Canada global field technicians Maxime Graveline and James Willis spent 42 days training the Jaguar Mining teams at Pillar and Turmalina how to use MOSS to streamline their underground operations.
“Training with a language barrier can be challenging,” said Graveline in the release. “However, the translators and team at Jaguar Mining made it easy to communicate and train everyone successfully. At the end of the implementation, the team felt confident in using MOSS underground in their daily operations.”
The Sudbury firm said it is proud to provide underground solutions to mining companies like Jaguar.
“The addition of MOSS will help their team reduce manpower cost while increasing safety by having fewer people in the development heading while reducing workflow times to as low as 10 minutes,” said NSS Canada President Bruno Lalonde.
Jaguar is a gold mining, development and exploration company operating in Brazil with three gold-mining complexes and a large land package, with significant upside exploration potential from mineral claims, covering about 65,000 hectares.
“The introduction of MOSS and Exyn autonomous technologies at Jaguar Mining is another step towards our commitment to quality, by increasing safety, operational efficiency and cost effectiveness in our underground operations,” said Eric Duarte, vice-president of operations at Jaguar Mining.
