MIAMI (United States) – The final gameday of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers couldn’t have had a more exciting finish, as six teams fought for the remaining five available spots up for grabs at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
As always, there were some standout performances that deserved to be recognized, so now is the time to vote for your MVP from Gameday 12, as the list was narrowed to the five top performers.
Before you vote, take a look at what each player did in their final game of the Americas Qualifiers.
First up is Puerto Rico center George Conditt, who finished with 9 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 assists, while shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the field for an efficiency of 27 in the team’s 87-80 win over Colombia.
The 10 rebounds were a personal best for the 22-year-old in his eight games played in the qualifiers.
Gabriel Deck returned to play for Argentina in a must-win scenario, but they ultimately came up short against Dominican Republic, 79-75, and failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1982. The 28-year-old forward did his part in the loss, finishing with 27 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, while shooting 10-of-15 from the field for an efficiency of 27.
Brazil were also in a must-win scenario on the final gameday and came through with an 83-76 victory against USA behind Bruno Caboclo’s 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. The 27-year-old shot 8-of-12 from the field, a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range and had a 26 efficiency.
Uruguay had already been eliminated before the last gameday, but that didn’t stop guard Luciano Parodi from having his best game of the qualifiers in an 82-69 loss to Mexico. The 29-year-old recorded 25 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and connected on all seven of his three-point attempts to earn an efficiency rating of 24. He hadn’t made more than two threes in a single game before that.
Rounding out the top performers is guard Jean Montero who helped lead Dominican Republic’s 79-75 comeback road win over Argentina after trailing by as many as 17 points. The win clinched their spot at the World Cup and eliminated Argentina. The 19-year-old finished with 22 points and 3 steals on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from behind the arc for an efficiency rating of 21.
